description The article presents an actual information on the detection rate of blood-borne viral infections (BBVI) among blood donors, potential organ and tissue donors in Russia and other countries. The causes of differences in BBVI prevalence between blood donors and potential organ and tissue donors have been analyzed. The BBVI prevalence among potential organ donors was proved to be much higher than among blood donors due to their medical-and-social characteristics.
