Summary: | According to an itinerary dating from 1298 to 1324 and 1329 to 1343, the Kings of Majorca spent two thirds of their time in the Roussillon. They only went to Montpellier on rare occasions. They didn’t go to Majorca on a regular basis. Undoubtedly because of the journey’s hazards, they remained at the Balearic Islands for long periods of sixteen to thirty one months but, between two stays, they could spend up to seven years without going to Majorca. The royal absence in Montpellier and Majorca did not reinforce the kingdom’s cohesion and did not favour the emergence of a common national feeling among the inhabitants of the three territories. |
