To address these issues, this study employed a duplex treatment combining DC sputtering of matrix films with plasma nitriding, which significantly enhanced the surface properties of Al 6061 alloy. The duplex treatment resulted in a notable increase in surface hardness from 101.2 HV (untreated) to 663.9 HV, wear resistance improved with a wear rate reduction of up to 87%, and corrosion resistance was enhanced in a 3.5% NaCl environment. These findings suggest that the duplex coating provides a robust solution for extending the service life of Al 6061 alloy, offering significant potential in demanding industrial applications where superior surface protection is essential. |
