Summary: | This paper focuses on collaborative ecohousing spaces (ecovillages, eco-communities or ‘écolieux’ in French) where people explore and experience other ways of doing and making collectively, with respect for earth care and living systems. Two case studies show how the inhabitants of these living spaces create special space-time frameworks in order to bring together a certain aspiration for autonomy with the need to be anchored in a particular territory. The following study illustrates how these autonomous spaces are locally rooted by highlighting three aspects of territorial anchoring. Firstly, ‘doing in’ responds to the question of ‘where’: what activities are carried out, where and for what reasons? Secondly, ‘doing with’ highlights the different resources and networks that are mobilized in a given territory. Finally, ‘doing for’ questions the inhabitants’ ability to take into account the local impact of their actions. |
