| description | Security rhetoric, the police and the justice system play a central role in the reconfiguration of racism, a racism now “without racists”, which places the blame on the victims of discrimination. Police relentlessness is profoundly shaping a society marked by the mass incarceration of young African Americans. It's part of a system that perpetuates racism, a society where the black body continues to be to be represented as a threat. This synthesis article draws on statistical data, press articles and secondary sources to show how police issues are intertwined with racial issues, in a society where security policies are part of the racialization process. Police violence is not simply a symptom of persistent racism, but essential elements in its perpetuation. However, when the fight against racism is limited to the denunciation of this violence, it runs the risk of isolating African Americans by obscuring the close link between racism and social inequality. |
