Description
Summary:These reflections aim to identify the processes of interpellation (submission/qualification, Therborn, 1991) related to nature, in seven Geography textbooks for secondary education adopted in Brazil and Portugal, from 1929 to 1946. The methodological procedures included literature review, comparative analysis and Discourse Analysis. The images and contents illustrate the representations of nature. These served both countries in their political projects. For the Portuguese metropolis and its colonies, in order to justify colonisation and the need for occupation and use of spaces; in Brazilian books, they extolled the grandeur and exuberance of nature, suggesting its potential for exploration and civilisation. The representations also supported some of the actions of these authoritarian governments on people, spaces and territories (internally and externally).
