Description
Summary:In this conversation, sociologist Jocelyne Porcher discusses the construction of a new field of research in the social sciences, animal work, situated at the crossroads of the sociology of work and animal studies. Drawing on her own intellectual path, rooted in the contributions of the psychodynamics of work and more broadly in the thought of Marx, she explains the genesis of animal work as a research topic. Animal work is a scientific proposal that invites to rethink animal domestication historically. It is also an ethical and political proposal that rehabilitates work as a way of living together between humans and animals in our contemporary societies, in the face of animal abolitionist movements and the permanence of animal production. Jocelyne Porcher thus invites to see work as a way of reinventing our relationship with domestic animals.
