Summary:Electrophysiological tests in ophthalmology acts as an important clinical tool in evaluation, diagnosis and management of ophthalmic and neurological disorders. They give us information about functional integrity of the visual system and assess the disorders affecting visual pathway, retina, optic nerve and higher visual processing centres. Along with advanced imaging it gives an additional information of various ocular diseases. There are different types of electrophysiological tests which include electroretinography (ERG), electro oculography (EOG) and visual evoked potential (VEP). This article highlights various tests and test procedures in brief, their clinical implications and also recent advances in this field so that it can provide an aid in day-to-day ophthalmic clinical practice.
