| Summary: | Teak wood powder and rice husk ash brake pads have been made as alternative brake pad materials, but have not met the SAE J661 brake pad standards. The use of a hot press of 180 C and improvement of the composition of brake pad materials are needed to improve the quality and meet the brake pad testing standards based on SAE J661. The study used an experimental method with three samples. Sample variations in the form of a mixture of teak wood powder and rice husk ash and a mixture of epoxy, aluminium, and magnesium. The samples were made using a hot press with a temperature of 180C. The tests carried out included hardness, wear, heat resistance, and density tests. The samples were tested on two-wheeled vehicles to test the braking distance. The use of a hot press tool can improve the hardness test, wear test and braking distance values. But it can also reduce the density value and heat resistance test. The best sample is sample 3 which has 53.79 HV hardness test, 3.95 X 10-6 mm²/kg and 3.60 m braking distance test with a deceleration value of 17.11 m/s². Testing of brake pads made of teak wood powder and rice husk ash still does not meet the SAE J661 standard. It would be best to require an alternative brake pads material that is harder than teak wood powder and rice husk ash using a hot press tool to meet the SAE J661 brake pads standard. |
