Summary:Abstract In order to synergistically improve the strength and toughness of Si3N4 ceramic. We imitate the structure of shell nacre and use Si3N4 as the matrix layer, TiN is used as the interface layer. During the experiment, the samples were prepared by dry lamination and discharge plasma sintering techniques. In the process of the study, ceramic samples with different microstructures were obtained by adjusting the amount of TiN addition and sintering temperature. The fracture toughness and flexural strength were improved by the layered ceramics modeled after the micro‐nano structure was regulated by the nacre, the toughness can reach to 17.04 ± 1.32 MPa·m1/2. At the same time, the bending strength can reach 322 ± 3.2 MPa. Bio‐inspired layered ceramics with high toughness can be better choice for industrial equipment in the aerospace field and daily life.
