description The synchronous belt transmission noise mechanism is complicated,especially the air borne noise. Taking the double helical synchronous belt and straight tooth synchronous belt with identical end tooth profile as research object,the straight tooth pulley includes the flange and non- flange structure. The relationship between transmission noise and initial tension and rotational speed are derived. The frequency spectrum analysis demonstrates that the noise differentiation arisen by air borne noise. The result shows that the air borne noise is strengthened with dipole and quadrupole noise source due to the flange,the air borne noise is weaken by the sound pressure leakage of air piston. The relationship of air borne noise and relative parameters is quantified.
