Summary: | This study presents two parallel studies concerning the population of Western Switzerland during Neolithic times, based on the non-metric traits of eight samples dating from the Middle Neolithic to the Bell Beaker period (4500-2200 BC). One study was carried out on 34 cranial traits, the other on 61 dental traits. Multidimensional scaling and hierarchical clustering analysis of these two datasets made it possible to establish three models concerning the appearance of the Bell Beaker Culture in these areas: the arrival of foreigners in this region in two successive waves, the development of the funerary ritual, and a combination of the two latter proposals. |
