Description
Summary:The purpose of the study is to investigate the mathematical competence of 8th grade students in the context of teaching problem solving strategies. In the study, students were taught problem-solving strategies and were asked to solve problems prepared on these strategies using the appropriate strategy. The study was conducted with 32 eighth grade students in an elementary school. The data were analyzed using the content analysis method. The results of the pretest and posttest on mathematical competence suggest that the exercise in which problem-solving strategies were taught increased the level of mathematical competence of the students. In addition, data from the semi-structured interview sheets, student solution sheets, and observation notes identified progress in the students' problem-solving process and implementation of mathematical processes.
