Summary:This study highlights the specific challenges and collaborative dynamics of team translation in the context of children’s literature. It examines how Ukrainian translation navigates cultural, linguistic, and literary considerations to adapt the text for a young audience while maintaining fidelity to J. K. Rowling’s original narrative. The study emphasizes several aspects: a) team translation dynamics: translating a complex and culturally rich text like Harry Potter often requires a collaborative effort. This includes dividing translation tasks, harmonizing linguistic style, and ensuring consistency in terminology, especially with proper nouns, magical terms, and culturally specific references; b) cultural adaptation: Ukrainian translators faced challenges in localizing elements of the story, such as idioms, humor, and cultural references, to resonate with Ukrainian readers. This involved using strategies like localization (adapting references to the target culture) and transformation (modifying elements to align with audience expectations) ; and c) age-appropriate translation: the translation had to consider the target audience’s age and reading comprehension, adapting complex themes and wordplay without losing the essence of the original text. This research underscores the importance of cultural and linguistic sensitivity in translating children’s literature and demonstrates how a team approach can address the multifaceted demands of such projects.
