Description
Summary:[Objective] To investigate the expression of miR‐378a in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues and its correlation with the prognosis of patients. [Methods] Subject recruitment consisted of 91 patients with OSCC, surgical procedures were carried out from March 2015 to March 2018. Real‐time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT‐qPCR) was used to detect the expressions of miR‐378a in OSCC and adjacent tissues. The patients were followed up on the first day after operation, and the deadline for follow‐up was March 31, 2021. With death or expiration of follow‐up as the end event, the death and overall survival time during the follow‐up period were recorded. [Results] The relative expression level of miR‐378a in OSCC tissues was lower than that in the adjacent tissues (P<0.001). The differences of the relative expression levels of miR‐378a in different TNM stage, degree of differentiation and lymph node metastasis were statistically significant (P<0.05). Kaplan‐Meier analysis showed that the average survival time of patients in the high expression group was 32.29 months, and the 3‐year survival rate was 73.81%, which was higher than 24.80 months and 30.61% in the low expression group (P<0.001). The expression of miR‐378a, TNM stage, degree of differentiation and lymph node metastasis were risk factors that affect the survival time of patients (P<0.05). [Conclusion] The present study revealed that the expression level of miR‐378a in the tissues of OSCC is weaker than that in the normal tissues. The expression intensity is related to TNM stage, degree of differentiation and lymph node metastasis. It is a risk factor that affects the prognosis of patients.
