| Summary: | Access to Fort Príncipe da Beira, built in 1775 in the Amazon, has always been extremely difficult due to its remote location and lack of infrastructure. In the beginning, the months-long journey was made by river and trail, taking up to three months from Rio de Janeiro. With the construction of the Madeira-Mamoré railway at the beginning of the 20th century, the journey time was reduced to three weeks, with a longer route via Belém and Porto Velho. Today, with the trans-Amazonian roads built in the 1970s, the journey is made in days, but still faces challenges due to the long distances and weather conditions. |
