Description
Summary:Abstract The aim of the article was to investigate the history of the Jewish community in Biała Podlaska during World War II. Material and methods The article uses regional literature, printed sources, copies of typescripts and audio and video recordings available on the Internet, which are memories of both Polish witnesses and Jewish survivors. Results The history of the Jewish community in Biała Podlaska during World War II was described. The methods of repression used by the Germans were discussed, a group of distinguished criminals was presented and the attitude of the local Polish population was characterized. Conclusions The last three years in the approximately 300-year history of Biała Jews were tragic. The occupiers stripped Jews of their property, forced them to work, deprived them of their dignity and finally took their lives. Most of them were displaced in 1942 to German Nazi extermination camps.
