Summary:The process of climate change that is taking place on our planet, with obvious manifestations in the Mediterranean region, causes alterations in the main climatic elements (temperature, precipitation) and, in particular, favours the more frequent occurrence of extreme atmospheric events, which have a significant socio-economic impact in the affected regions. This paper presents the existing reality of climate change in our country, addresses the difference between meteorological warnings and civil protection alerts, advocates the comprehensive management of disaster risk as a tool for risk reduction and provides some guidelines for adaptation to climate change and its associated atmospheric extremes in the Mediterranean regions. application.
