Description
Summary:This study presents results of the research of the archival documentation on the life and activity of the Romanian composer Grigore Nica (1936-2009). Starting from the files kept in the archives of the Union of Romanian Composers and Musicologists, National University of Music Bucharest, and the National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives, to the personal correspondence and interviews I have conducted with some of his colleagues, I have traced the composer’s personal and professional path, emphasizing his imprisonment in 1952-1953, the consequences of this traumatic experience, and the strained relationship he had with the communist regime throughout his life, until his emigration to the USA, in 1990.
