| Summary: | Studying the development process of a certain place dedicated to exhibitions allows us to understand which paths and shortcuts have been taken in constructing its identity features. From these elements, it is possible to understand and analyze its current work, and search for possible and proper output for the future. In this article, we present a case study of the “Museu de Arte do Espírito Santo” (Vitória, Brazil) which, by studying the meanders of its formation and solidification until the present – through research in newspaper archives, collection archives and interviews – identifies characteristic factors which permeate this process: the collection based on masterpieces created using technical reproduction techniques and the important presence of educational work. |
