Description
Summary:A defining feature of today’s society is its technocratization, which involves migration processes between common vocabulary and professional terminology. An important specific feature of the term as a structural and semantic unity is the preservation of its integrity. Different language tools can be used to create a new word and choosing the optimal method of nomination is a complex process determined by objective and subjective moments, external and internal factors. One of the main means of term formation is the use of native resources, which involves the use of non-morphological method of word formation, which is based on the fact that the sound shell of the creative word remains unchanged, but acquires a new meaning. The article analyzes the specifics of use the method in term formation on the base of material in modern Ukrainian electric power engineering terminology (hereinafter UEТS). The peculiarities of the terms formed by lexical-semantic and morphological-syntactic ways of word formation are clarified. The main thematic groups of electric power engineering terms formed as a result of the secondary nomination are revealed – due to the rethinking of the lexical meaning of commonly used words. It is stated that the thematic groups of UETS terms formed by the lexical-semantic method differ in their number, and the morphological-syntactic method is used for small amount of electric power engineering terms. The analyzed material has made it possible to note that such terminolexems function in UETS both as separate words and as components of terminological phrases. The presence in UETS of terms, which have arisen by a way of transition of words from one part of language to another, is revealed. The study has confirmed that the non-morphological method of word formation remains a relevant process, as it is based on the natural phenomenon of the penetration of tokens based on metaphorization and metonymization in industry terminological systems. This testifies to the inseparable connection and interaction of common vocabulary with the language of science and to the constant linguistic dynamics in general
