description The influence of an oxidizing solution on the structure and chemical state of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) is investigated. The changes elemental composition of MWCNTs surface is studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of functional groups on the outer walls of MWCNTs under various oxidation conditions is carried out. It is shown that the use of various oxidizing agents for nanotubes treatment allows to effectively influence on the composition of the functional groups, and therefore to affect physicochemical properties of MWCNTs.
