description Bata is a shoe manufacturer that systematically built several factory towns around the world between the wars, around buildings (for production, housing, services, etc.) designed on the same model in the mother town of these company towns, Zlín, now in the Czech Republic. A Bata landscape, systematically repeated and highly recognisable, was thus formed from these company towns in many countries. At the end of the twentieth century, the various factories closed or withdrew from paternalism, leaving these factory towns orphaned. The closure of the productive part of the system raises questions about the future of this very specific landscape. Using a sample of factory towns in Western Europe, Central Europe and North America, this study seeks to provide some answers to the following question: what is happening to the landscape of Bata's factory towns more than 20 years after the closure of the factories?
