| Summary: | More than fifty years of independence, no language policy has dared to question the status of the French language in Burkina Faso. On the contrary, the image of French has been valued in most of the former French colonies located in sub-Saharan Africa. The French spoken in Burkina Faso differs from French in France by the use of an endogenous norm, marked by the socio-cultural and linguistic environment of the country. Thus, in the field of cinema, some directors make use of this spoken French through the speeches produced by the filmic characters. Missa Hébié’s “Commissariat de Tampy” series constitutes the corpus of our present communication. Our research aims to show how actor characters use the French language in their speeches. As for theory, we opted for sociolinguistics. For this study, we proceeded by a mixed approach (qualitative and quantitative). The working method consisted of observing the series and literally transcribing the interactions of the actors. The next step was to examine the French spoken in this series and analyze it. It emerges from our reflection that in the African context, the French language is handled in another way by its population. In the series “Commissariat de Tampy”, the actor characters modify certain phonemes of the French language in their speeches productions either by substitution, deletion or insertion of syllable. |
