Description
Summary:I propose to read, or rather to ruminate, on how Hernán Ronsino’s so called “Pampean trilogy” appropriates Sarmiento’s Chivilcoy, in order to re-narrate this space and to construct it as his own “unit of place”. In other words, in this article, I read Ronsino’s Chivilcoy and the archive he inscribes in relation to this cultural place to observe how he engages in a dialogue with Sarmiento’s own construction. By reading Ronsino’s Chivilcoy in relation to Sarmiento’s, I try to reflect on the cultural archive we call Argentina. In particular, I focus on Lumbre —the latest novel of the cycle and the most extensive one— as a mechanism of de-composition that deconstructs a space that Sarmiento identified as the key to imagining his vision of modernization and progress.
