description This paper presents the design and implementation of sector beam transmit (Tx) antennas for achieving wide detection coverage in a 79-GHz short-range radar (SRR) sensor for automotive or construction heavy equipment applications. The Tx antennas generate three sector beams in the azimuth plane, enabling broad radiating coverage. These antennas are realized using series-fed microstrip patch arrays with phase-adjusting power dividers. Prototypes of the designed Tx antennas were fabricated and measured, confirming the overall wide field of view and validating the performance against simulation results. Additionally, an 18-element linear patch array was designed for the four receive (Rx) channels to enhance detection accuracy with low sidelobe level in the elevation plane. The radar sensor module was developed and tested, demonstrating wide detection capabilities, and the proposed design can be applied to the actual environment.
