| Summary: | Personalized precision medicine is a unique approach that tailors treatment and prevention strategies according to an individual’s specific needs. This individualized approach has revolutionized the management of conditions such as cancer, inflammatory diseases, and inherited diseases and has emerged from our understanding of normal and diseased states, leading to the development of new biomedical assays for more precise disease classification and diagnosis. Furthermore, this approach identifies individuals at risk for developing a disease, thereby allowing personalized treatment. These strategies consider the variability in genetic predisposition, environment, and lifestyle among patients. Hence, cancer treatment has shifted from empirical methods to a more focused and tailored strategy that provides the right patient with the right medicine at the right time. Patients’ genetic material can be analyzed using information derived from clinically validated assays. Patients who can gain benefits are stratified and identified to ensure that they are treated, whereas others who are unlikely to benefit can receive alternative treatments. One example is stem cell therapy, which has emerged as a form of personalized medication for conditions secondary to surgeries, trauma, age-related conditions, complications from medications, autoimmune diseases, and numerous other problems. Autologous or allogeneic stem cells such as mesenchymal stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells can be used for direct tissue treatment in a rapid, personalized, and efficient manner. This approach of engineering cells and altering their functions before clinical use offers numerous benefits that are essential for personal health. |
