description Taking the opposite view to a position of fixing territories destroyed by the transport infrastructures, we seek the urban development potentials inherent to road/gardens context. Roadsides territories have their own rules which could inform a way to design in another way the city. Sensed from a personnal vehicule or from public transport, roadside natures, and in particular the domestic nature of allotment gardens, form unprecedented landscapes : chaotic, colored, textured, precarious, changing through seasons and years, patinated by time… How are they experienced from inside by those who model them day by day and also by those taking a walk though and around the gardens ? Our work answer this question through a in situ survey in France (Département de l’Isère 38 et Région Ile-de-France), in Portugal (Lisboa) in the United-States (San Francisco, California). This survey underline how these gardens are sensed environment through sonic, landscape and social dimensions. They are sometimes remarkable from the inside, but what about their environment, their surroundings ? At the same time of this analyse of the perception and the uses, a environmental analysis is conducted in order to evaluate the contribution of gardens to functionnal biodiversité (ecological continuities), specific biodiversity (number of species) and to estimate their pollutions (air, soil and plants pollutions) and it impact on gardeners and flâneurs. Indeed, if these environments are « affordances » for users that invent and enchant here their everydaylife, who decide and how of the future of those gardened landscapes ? Which place and position(s) road professionals and urban development professionals occupy and adopt in terms of roaside gardens ? Food for collaborative thoughts between infrastructure actors and local actors are developed and argumented with stakes and criteria, crossing atmosphere, ecological and pollution factors, explored during our researches.
