Description
Summary:Five decades after the work carried out in the 1960s, research on Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age sites in the sorroundings of Lake Galichskoye has resumed. Since 2013, excavations have been conducted by the Kostroma archaeological expedition with the support of the Russian Geographical Society. These efforts include the excavation of known sites – Unorozh and Bryukhovo – as well as exploratory surveys, which have so far identified 13 archaeological heritage sites: the Voznesenskoye I–V settlements and industrial complexes. Excavations have been ongoing at the Voznesenskoye I and IV settlements since 2020 and 2022, respectively. All the studied sites are of great importance for understanding the development of textile (net-impressed) ceramic traditions, their continuity, and the changes that occurred at the turn of the II and I millennia BC. Notably, artifacts dating from the late I millennium BC to the first half of the I millennium AD have been collected during investigations of Unorozh and Voznesenskoye IV settlements. The study of sites from this period is highly relevant, as very few materials from this era are known in the Kostroma Volga region.
