| Summary: | Courtly images of the horse: iconographical programmes in Italy and France during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The equestrian iconography associated with the French and Italian courts during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries is rich and diverse. This contribution focuses on four types of documents which are particularly relevant for studying horses and equestrian savoir faire at court: drawings, collections of engravings constituting a ‘virtual’ stud farm, frescoes cycles and collections of saddlery and sewing patterns. |
