Description
Summary:Considering the case of Brazil specifically, this article tackles the question of technological development in developing countries in the context of globalization. Globalization induces a series of challenges for these countries:– National industrial policies are put into question by the WTO rules that condemn technology imitation policies and the financial aids designed to help states promote exportations.– Companies from developed countries are increasingly unwilling to transfer technologies to companies from developing countries. This context leads us to question the possibility for companies from emerging countries to get integrated into worldwide oligopolies. Besides, research capacity in these countries can be limited by a powerful brain drain and their economic structure is submitted to a denationalization process (privatization, acquisition of local companies by foreign capital).
