| Summary: | If we trust in reviewers, Journey through the Impossible was perceived as a scientifically oriented play as well as a good old “féerie”, what seems a paradox. After contextualizing the play among Verne’s works, I show that its scenography is based in most cases on fantastic elements, inspired by folklore and mythology, instead of scientific ones. But the play occasionally presents specials effects, inspired by scientific knowledge, when it helps to please the audience. In the end, it will appear that the marvelous imaginary of the play is a decadent one, rooted in science, rather than scientific one strictly speaking. |
