description The results of discovery of the periodic law by D.I. Mendeleev and the current wording of the periodic dependence of the properties of chemical elements are presented. It is noted that in mathematics, one relate to the periodic functions those which values do not change by addition of the definite but not equal to zero number to the argument. Some examples of using the symmetry groups in the science, as well as the methods of representation of atomic and electron states in quantum mechanics based on the regularities defining the structure and properties of matter are given.
