description New media hasn’t killed old media, but it has undoubtedly transformed the urban typologies that once thrived on its circulation. As magazines and periodicals migrate to digital-only formats, the newsstand has lost its former status as a hub of public life and neighborhood information. In this shifting urban and media landscape, Playtime by Giancarlo Mazzanti reimagines this typology as a vibreant community hub. Responding to the Corriere della Sera’s call for a “newsstand of the future,” this modular, toy-like structure adapts to diverse urban contexts through interchangeable parts and simple functionality. By merging sociocultural and recreational functions with a degree of open-endedness in design, Playtime proposes a hybrid platform for public space vitality and collective engagement.
