I argue that such name-calling not only reflects the tension between moderates and conservatives within the Republican Party since the early 1940s, but is also used as a strategy of discursive boundary maintenance designed to protect the party’s identity. All the while, I analyze the role of conservative media as Republican role players in their own right. |
