Description
Summary:We are witnessing, since the 2011 revolution, a powerful growth of urban activism in Egypt, characterized by the increasing number of complaints about living conditions in urban areas and expressed wills to improve them, especially in Cairo. This presentation will investigate on the conditions for the emergence of this particular form of activism at the political, social and territorial levels. This communication will then establish a typology according to the interests pursued by the stakeholders (human rights, “right to the city”, environment and common goods’ protection). Finally, this paper will show that Egyptian urban activists are the authors of changes, which are already visible on the urban scene.
