Summary:There is no doubt that the language of Sahifeh Sajādiyeh is literary and that the analysis of the words from Imām Sajād (AS) in this term shows that his purpose of using this genre -regardless of the fact that literary language is inevitable in prayers- is to give insight. In this regard, the purpose of the present research is the linguistic-rhetorical analysis of the prayer of Makārem al-Akhlāq from Imām Sajād (AS) based on rhetorical functions and also the explanation of those functions and their impact on religious insight and moral values in the prayer of Makārm al-Akhlāq. The method of study was qualitative and it was a literary research based on basic literary knowledge. The significance of the study is that it shows how rhetorical elements can be effective in the explanation of moral values. Indeed, this research aims to clarify the reasons for applying rhetorical elements in the prayer of Imām Sajād (AS). The research findings show that using simile, trope, metaphor, and irony can deepen the effect of instructions on the audience and make abstract concepts objective in order to improve the perception of religious and ethical concepts. 24 cases of figures of speech were extracted from this prayer involving metaphor with 12 instances in the first level, irony with 8 instances in the second level, trope with 3 instances in the third level, and simile with 1 instance in the fourth level. The most important issues considered in this prayer by Imām Sajād (AS) to deepen insight include: using the treasure of life to acquire moral virtues, achievement of the stage of satisfaction, avoidance of evil vices, ethical living, humbleness, forgiveness revealing goodness and concealing faults, making up for bad actions, and tolerance.
