Description
Summary:Objective Through cross-sectional investigation of serum uric acid level in maintenance hemodialysis(MHD) patients, the distribution of uric acid in hemodialysis patients and its influencing factors were analyzed. Methods The 165 maintenance hemodialysis patients in Blood Purification Center of Hainan Provincial People’s Hospital were enrolled in this study. The levels of blood uric acid, creatinine, albumin, and C-reactive protein were determined, and the incidences of hyperuricemia and influencing factors were studied. Results Before dialysis, the mean levels of uric acid were(485±109) μmol/L in all patients,and(484 ± 103) μmol/L and(487 ± 118) μmol/L in males and females,respectively(P>0.05).The incidence of hyperuricemia was 74.5%in all patients,and69.2%and 83.6%in males and females,respectively(P<0.05).The mean levels of uric acid in weekly dialysis 8 h were(493 ± 102) μmol/L,and(461 ± 125) μmol/L in weekly dialysis 12 h(P>0.05).The incidence of hyperuricemia was 77%in weekly dialysis 8 h,and 67.4%in weekly dialysis12 h(P>0.05).In the age group, serum uric acid showed a trend of increasing first and then descending with age.The serum uric acid in 40- 50 years old patients was the highest,reaching(532 ±79) μmol/L.In the primary disease group, the serum uric acid level in chronic glomerulonephritis group was higher than that in the diabetic nephropathy group with the difference being statistically significant(503 ± 102 vs.455 ± 118 μmol/L,P<0.017).Serum uric acid was positively correlated with hemoglobin(r= 0.223,P = 0.004),serum phosphorus(r = 0.349,P<0.0001) and serum creatinine(r= 0.490,P< 0.0001).Conclusions Before dialysis serum uric acid level in MHD patients was higher than in the normal populatioa The level of serum uric acid in MHD patients was not only related to renal dysfunction, but also to the nutrition. The serum uric acid was a nutritional marker in MHD patients.
