| Summary: | One of the theories that has been put forward regarding the relationship between reason and faith is strong rationalism. According to this view, human belief can never be devoid of reasoning. Strong rationalists are divided into two groups: atheists and theists. The second group believes that religious belief is completely reasonable and rational. Accordingly, Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli’s view on reason and faith can be considered a form of strong rationalism. The main elements of strong rationalism found in his works are as follows: A. An emphasis on the idea that faith and belief must be based on reason and evidence, distancing themselves from conjecture. B. A rejection of expedient fideism, which considers belief to be based on practical interests. C. The foundation of rational arguments on fundamentalism, meaning that belief must either be self-evident or derived from the self-evident. D. The notion that reason is inherently impartial and not based on prior biased assumptions; rather, truth can be discovered through reasoning and evidence. E. The claim that religious belief cannot rely on probabilistic reasoning; instead, the foundation of belief must rest on certain and demonstrable reasons. |
