description A simple and effective system for transformation and regeneration of Citrullus vulgaris Schrad has been developed. Segments of cotyledonary explants can be infected by agrobacterium tumefacienss harboring a binary vector containing a npt-Ⅱ gene and a WMV-2 CP gene. Transgenic plants were obtained. Successful genetic transformation was confirmed by NPT-Ⅱ enzyme activity assay, DNA dot hybridization and Southern blot analysis.
