description Until recently, the situation of the Galician language has received little attention in international literature. In recent years, however, the particularities of the Galician context have begun to attract attention. Drawing on the most recent findings, this article presents an overview of the sociolinguistic situation in Galicia, briefly explains its historical background and examines its evolution since 1980, when Galicia began its period of political autonomy, paying particular attention to the linguistic policies implemented and their effect on the dynamics of substitution and revitalization of Galician.
