Description
Summary:This article analyses the political activism of José Mário Branco in the period characterized by the ideas and praxis of Marxism-Leninism, as well as the beginning of his departure from this universe. This period begins with his recruitment by the PCP, from which he quickly moves to Maoist groups, and ends when he leaves the UDP. Between 1974 and 1976, his party activism converged and was paired with his revolutionary singer activity. His path clearly shows the ideals of Maoism exerted on those born in the 1940s and 1950s and how quickly these ideals eroded in the second half of the 1970s. However, in contrast to the majority, who turned away from political participation, José Mário Branco remained active in the field of political song and occasionally took part in party activities within radical left-wing formations.
