Description
Summary:The first part of this work presents geomorphosites that are also historical and mythical hotspots. That’s the case of inselbergs of Sirigya and Dalbulla in Sri-Lanka and of a Yucatan karstic lake, the Chichén-Ytzá sacred cenote. Polish Jura presents an original karstic landscape with their limestone turrets, of mogotes type, inherited from the Tertiary period and the numerous caves of the Pradnik canyon. By their caverns and hills perched castles, it is also one historical hotspot. In Provence, it seem to make sense to sketch an inventory of the peaks perched chapels and of monasteries located in "deserts" and to study rupestrian and troglodyte sanctuaries from Var and nearby departments. All those patrimonial sites are, as the Sainte-Baume example, of a wide geological, geomorphological and environmental interest. The second part is more positioned on geomorphological and technical problems. Firstly it is a touristical site, with sismic risks, near Ephese. In the natural ice-caves of Central Europa, especially in Dobšina, in Slovak Paradise, with favourable ecosystem, the preservation conditions of a subterranean glacier have been estimated. Under the title "Damnable gypsum", it is call back that the many disorders that occur as in urbanized site (ie, Roquevaire and in Var), as well in alpine gypsum karsts (typical examples in Savoie). The book ends on aspects and problems of the sites of the Eastern Caucasus, visited during the franco-soviet meeting (1982). To conclude, all these examples, collected during years, take part to reveal the importance of those sites, for the scientific, environmental and patrimonial interest.
