| description | A topic of discussion for much longer in France than in the English-speaking world or Scandinavia, there have been several attempts to conduct a sociological analysis of stress at work, with some research projects remaining relatively unknown today. One corpus includes studies that seek to use statistical data to objectify the relationship between social position and work organisation, on one hand, and the advance of one or the other category of health risks, on the other. These studies have been hampered by certain subjective dimensions contextualised by people’s perceptions of work situations and their lack of well-being. Constructivist approaches have shown the social and collective dimensions of the meaning attributed to various difficulties faced in the work world. Interconnecting these two main approaches and envisioning stress as a complex and dynamic social process characterises recent sociological research and offers a more subtle overview of the great variability of professional settings, in terms of the activities being conducted and the lack of well-being. |
