Summary:The term of "Turk" is one of the most controversial terms in the Ottoman historigoraphy. The Ottoman's viewpoints towards Turk and Turkish nation have always aroused curiosity. It has been claimed that these viewpoints are negative, adverse and hostile. This claim has frequently been put forward on several occasions with the cliche of "Etrāk-ı bī-idrāk". This article will analyze this controversial term through the works of the sixteenthcentury distinguished scholar-bureaucrat and productive writer, Gelibolulu Mustafa. For this study, his entire corpus is examined to classify the term of Turks better within its own context. After this classification, existing questions about this matter is tried to be answered, and new questions are asked and some novel comments are made. Beside "Turk", "Turcoman" and "Rûmî" are also investigated and listed, the terms that are closely related to the concept. Investigating andlisting these two terms and the idea of Turk allowed for not only determine to how a famous and knowledge "Ottoman" looks to that terms and concepts but also make a detailed comparison between them. Also, Âlî's views towards other nations and peoples will be discussed in detail to support the usage of these three terms.
