Description
Summary:Introduction:Mutrakricchra (~chronic urinary tract infection [UTI]) is a disease of Mutravaha Srotas (~urinary tract) and its symptomatology resembles more closely with the symptoms of UTI. The references of Chikitsa (~treatment) as supportive evidence show that Mutramargagata Uttarabasti (~enema administered through the urethral route) has a role in the treatment of chronic UTI. In the treatment of Mutraghata Chikitsa (~urine retention), Bhaishajya Ratnavali mentioned the use of Shilodbhidadi Taila. The study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Shilodbhidadi Taila Uttarabasti in the management of Mutrakricchra in females. Methods:(i) Design: This study was an active controlled randomized clinical trial of 30 patients of female gender. (ii) Intervention: For a continuous 7-day period, Group A patients were given Shilodbhidadi Taila Mutramargagata Uttarabasti (30 ml daily), while Group B patients were given tablet ofloxacin 200 mg and tablet nitrofurantoin 100 mg BD. (iii) Duration of trial: 2 months. (iv) Outcome assessment of change in symptoms of UTI and changes in laboratory parameters. Results:Significant improvements were seen in subjective parameters such as burning micturition, increased frequency of micturition, and abdominal pain and in objective parameters like ultrasound and urological findings by Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Conclusion:Shilodbhidadi Taila Uttarabasti was effective in reducing symptoms of Mutrakricchra.
