Summary: | Through the stories of some prostitutes in the city of Mekelle, the two models of femininity - modern and traditional - proposed by contemporary Ethiopian society will be discussed. It will reflect on the contradictions these models of identity bring into play, forcing women to make uncertain choices, and on their pervasiveness, which permeates the discourses and individual behavior. The result is a very confused reality, constantly caught between what people should do and what they would like to do, where women's actions demand the possibility of a new way of being modern. |
