description The development of information and communication technology infrastructures, the formation of various social networks, the activities of 3.5 billion people from all over the world and 47 million Iranian users in these networks have caused news agencies to collect, publish news and reach audiences. The purpose of this study is to explain how news agencies use social networks using media convergence theory. The study examined the performance of national, regional and international news agencies (IRNA, ISNA, Anatolia and Reuters) on Instagram and Twitter. The present study has used the method of quantitative content analysis for written textual data. 800 tweets ending September 1, 2020 (September 11, 1999) means 3200 tweets in total. Due to the total number, high sample size and random error are minimized, so this study has acceptable reliability. SPSS software and Chi-square test were used to analyze the data. Findings show that most of the published tweets were related to positive or neutral domestic news with 22% and foreign negative news with 16%. News agencies do not have a single procedure for using social networks, the type of interaction with their audience. It is influenced by the type of social network and also the behavior of the audience in each social network is different.
