Description
Summary:Food waste is a major environmental issue globally, with Indonesia being the largest contributor in Southeast Asia. To address this, a shift in consumption attitudes is needed. PT Ekonomi Sirkular Indonesia developed Surplus Indonesia, a food rescue app aimed at reducing food waste by encouraging individual participation. However, adoption of such apps remains low. This study explores factors influencing individuals' intentions to adopt food rescue apps in Indonesia. The research model integrates theories such as the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2), Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), Norm Activation Model (NAM), Self-Determination Theory (SDT), and includes additional variables like Environmental Concern and Food Waste Awareness. A quantitative approach was used, with survey data analyzed via Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). Findings reveal that price value, social influence, attitude, green altruism, and environmental concern significantly influence intention to use food rescue apps. In contrast, technological factors are not significant. This suggests that economic, social, psychological, and environmental considerations outweigh technology-related aspects in shaping user intentions. These insights can guide developers and policymakers in increasing adoption by targeting the key influencing factors. The study contributes to the literature by combining multiple theoretical perspectives to understand the adoption of food rescue apps, filling gaps in prior research focused mainly on technology acceptance.
