Description
Summary:Objective To explore the relationship between post-traumatic growth, rumination, and perceived social support in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, to inform targeted interventions for promoting post-traumatic growth. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 386 patients with inflammatory bowel disease using a general information questionnaire, the Simplified Chinese Version of the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (C-PTGI), the Simplified Chinese Version of the Event-Related Rumination Inventory (C-ERRI), and the Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS). Results The total score of post-traumatic growth for patients with inflammatory bowel disease was (58. 32±16. 63) points, indicating a moderate level. The total score for rumination was (27. 68±12. 82) points, and the total score for perceived social support was (58. 78±12. 51) points. Post-traumatic growth in patients with inflammatory bowel disease was positively correlated with rumination and perceived social support (P<0. 01). Post-traumatic growth was positively correlated with purposeful rumination and perceived social support (P<0. 001). Post-traumatic growth was also positively correlated with perceived social support, family support, friend support, and support from other personnel (P<0. 001). In the multiple linear regression analysis, all variables that entered the model were statistically significant, accounting for approximately 23% of the variance in post-traumatic growth. Conclusion There is a correlation between post-traumatic growth in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and each dimension of rumination and perceived social support. Rumination and perceived social support positively may contribute to enhancing post-traumatic growth in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, thereby promoting their mental health and overall development.
